8 years ago, a city girl moved to a little rural town in the Northern Cape. The move necessary to further her career, the town guided by her faith.
My story began in Springbok in 2012 as a community service Occupational Therapist. I struggled at the time to fully comprehend the profession of Occupational Therapy… and now 8 years later, it is all coming full circle.
I see now the value of the profession to all it services. I see the potential it has to change communities. I see the power it has to guide a nation. It is truly a profession I stumbled into, one of which I am so thankful for.
I worked in the government for 7 years. It was a process of refinement, not only in my profession but for my character as well.
It was not the most optimal working environment; I cried many nights concerning patients who I wanted to help but did not have the resources in government to do so.
I thought about starting a private practice, but could not fathom the expenses and risk that came along with. Last year, after giving birth to our daughter my perspective changed.
I could no longer ‘fake’ being okay with my working environment. It dawned on me that my faith had brought me to Springbok, and that it was written, “He would supply all of my needs.” I made a bold decision to quit the comfort of a government salary and strive for my dreams.
OT INTERVENES was birthed. It came from a place in my heart where Occupational Therapy is always intervening.
